In 1946, Emmett Klessig started a tree service in Eagle River, Wisconsin. During the cold winter months, Emmett switched to the logging side of tree work and worked with U.S. Forest Timber Sales, a company he had created himself. Later in 1959, Emmett was awarded a contract for tree trimming and utility construction from Wisconsin Public Service. Because he was so very busy, Emmett passed the logging portion of the business over to his son, Lawrence "Larry" Klessig. Klessig Tree Service of Eagle River, along with its logging business, was left for Larry and his sons to carry on the hard work Emmett first began so many years previously.
Larry's sons -- David, Wade and John -- took over the Klessig Tree Service business making their dad proud. Tragedy struck in 2014 as John passed away in a vehicle accident. Larry remained behind-the-scenes as a business consultant until his passing in 2020, and Dakota (Wade's son) came on-board as a partner in ownership. KTS's daily operations are run today by Wade Klessig, David Klessig, and Dakota Klessig.
